7 Secrets of Tennis Forehand
The tennis forehand is probably the most used shot in the game of tennis and is often a weapon for many people. Because of this, I would highly recommend having a decent forehand at the very least. Having a great forehand can be easy with a few tips and a little practice because there are things that coaches and really good players wont tell you to try and make a quick buck or beat you in a match.
1.Get to the ball early in proper position. By this I mean to really focus on where your feet are in relation to where the next ball will be. Also get your racket back as early as possible, preferably as soon as the ball comes off your opponents racket. This requires practice and just hitting a ton of balls to learn to judge if the ball is going to be short (inside serving box) or long (past serving box). Learning to move forward or backwards enough so the ball drops in your exact comfort zone is key to hitting a consistent forehand. If at any time during a rally you have to lean in any direction to hit the ball, you're not in the proper place.
2. Get a full extension of your arm. This means that each and every time hit the ball you should be to the left of the ball (for right handed players) enough to get a full extension of your arm. If you're too close to the ball it will cramp your arm trying to hit it and you wont be able to direct it properly.
3. Experiment with the different grips until you find the best one for you. Most recreational players and new players use the eastern forehand grip which is the standard basic forehand grip. I'm gonna give you one of the biggest secrets of the tennis forehand right now. Most if not every player in the top 10 in the world do NOT use this grip. They use the semi-western forehand grip. This grip allows you to hit flat shots and topspin very comfortably with the same contact point although many people find it awkward at first. It's so universal and extremely helpful. It can truly be the one thing you need to take your forehand to the next level.
4. Hit the ball in front of your body at all times about half a foot to a foot depending on the height of the ball. If you hit the ball even with the side of your body of slightly behind you its late. Hitting late will cause you to hit the ball into the net or off-court to the left of right.
5. Your racket face should facing downward at the floor during your back swing. This is because when you swing you racket face naturally opens up and if its already open during your back swing it can cause you to hit the ball long.
6. Transfer your body weight to your front foot during your shot. If you hit the ball off of your back foot then your body is off balance and you can't control the ball as well as if you lean into the shot with all of your weight.
7.Practice secrets of tennis forehand at least for one hour every day when weather permits. If you have the luxury of a handball or racket ball court in your area to practice how to do backhand in tennis it's even better because you don't need a hitting partner. I promise you that within one week of doing this you'll improve and within one month you'll want to thank me.
